Stadium Guide

History

Rose Stadium is a purpose-built football ground which first opened in December 2009 after approximately three years of construction which began on 27th March 2007. The main stadium at the heart of the Changwon Football Center, Rose Stadium is one of five football pitches within the sports complex with three made of natural grass and two from artificial turf.

Costing an estimated 1.168 billion South Korean Won which equates to around 15 million USD, Changwon stadium is capable of seating 15,500 supporters and was partially funded through grants given by the Seoul Olympic Sports Promotion Foundation. Originally it was set to be based in Yeongnam but the project was later became Changwon Football Center when it was relocated.

Municipally owned the stadium is rectangular in design similar to English and German football grounds, however it’s style is perhaps more reminiscent of modern Major League Soccer Venues such as Avaya Stadium and Rio Tinto.

It is currently home to two football teams, Changwon FC who have spent all of their history to date in the Korea National League which is the equivalent of the third division, and Gyeongnam FC who have spent the majority of their time in the K-League Classic.
