Estadio Víctor Manuel Reyna History

The site on which today’s Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna sits has been used for sporting activities since the 1980s, with the first stadium originally constructed in 1982. Known as The Capital City Stadium it was large enough to seat 6,000 supporters and was inaugurated with a match between Club America and the now defunct student team known as  Chiapas.

After 20 years of use, the stadium was remodelled in 2003 and renamed in honour of Victor Manuel Reyna who is considered to be the father of football in Chiapas. He created the first state leagues in the 1950s and was famous for spending a large proportion of his salary on sports equipment for local children.

Since reopening, Estadio Reyna has been the only home of Club de Fútbol Jaguares de Chiapas who were founded in 2002. To date the highest level of football hosted at the stadium has been an international friendly matches of the Men’s national team against Ecuador and Canada in 2011.

As well as being equipped with modern bleachers the stadium features a state of the art gym and health care centre which is used by the players of Jaguares de Chiapas when they are not training during the week. The wider sports complex also houses facilities for other sports including basketball, tennis and Swimming.
