Euro 2008 was co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland with both countries hosting the quadrennial European Football Championship for the fist time in their history.

Greece were defending champions having caused a massive upset by winning Euro 2004, but this time they flopped, recording the worst finish in the tournament amassing 0 points in their three group fixtures.

The final which was held in Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Vienna, saw Spain defeat Germany 1 nil courtesy of a first half goal by Fernando Torres, and this victory spurred the country on to domination of International football for a period of 6 years.
