Milliy Stadium History

The new Bunyodkor Stadium was constructed on the site of the former MHSK Stadium which first opened in 1986. Home to Bunyodkor F.K for over 20 years, the facilities were slowly becoming outdated and rather than renovate them it was deemed easier to rebuild from scratch.

Demolished during the 2008/2009 season, the new stadium took a total of three years to build before reopening for a friendly match between Bunyodkor and Pakhtakor on 28th September 2012.

Designed by German architects GMP who also lent a hand to the two main venues of Euro 2012: Poland’s National Stadium, and Olimpiyskiy NSC in Ukraine, the project cost a reported $250 million.

Undoubtedly on par with Europe’s finest football grounds, the new Bunyodkor Stadium has essentially become the new home of the Uzbekistan National Team. It replaces the ageing Pakhtakor Markaziy Stadium which first opened in 1956.

The first International fixture was played on 26th March 2013 against Lebanon. Whilst The 2014 World Cup qualifier failed to sell out, it did attract an impressive crowd of 31,197.
