Chang Arena History

The new I-Mobile Stadium first opened in June 2011, and less than a month later the ground hosted an international friendly match between Thailand and Myanmar to mark the occasion. The match wasn’t exactly the entertaining spectacle fans had hoped for as the home nation won by a single goal to nil.

Constructed over a period of 9 months beginning in October 2010, the stadium is believed to have cost an estimated $15 million U.S dollars which appears to be an absolute bargain for Thailand’s 2011 and 2013 treble winning Champions, Buriram United.

Located within the Mueang Buriram District, the stadium sits within a 150 acre plot of land which contains parking spaces for an estimated 1,500 vehicles including 500 cars, and 1000 motorcycles.

Known informally as “Thunder Castle” or the “fifth castle” of Buriram Province, New I-Mobile Stadium is actually the largest purpose-built football ground in Thailand.

Upon opening in 2011 the capacity sat at a respectable 24,000 however this figure was increased three years later in 2014. The renovation work saw the addition of 8,600 additional seats bringing the capacity up to 32,600.
