Jalak Harupat Stadium History

Constructed over a two year period between January 2003 and April 2005 in order to coincide with 364th anniversary of Bandung Regency. Designed with two fully-covered grandstands, and an athletics track around the perimeter of the pitch, the stadium is amongst the finest in Indonesia.

Still the stadium was not without controversy with allegations of corruption levelled at those involved in the tendering and construction process. Costing an estimated 67.5 billion Rupiah, reports suggest that the total cost was inflated by around 33% compared to the original projected figure.

The stadium’s name is derived from the nickname of Oto Iskandar di Nata who is widely regarded as a national hero for his role in the Independence of Indonesia. He was known as the Starling of Harupat.

In 2008 Jalak Harupat Soreang was nominated as one of six venues for the 2008 Asian Football Federation Championship or the Suzuki Cup as its commonly known. Hosted by four different countries, Indonesia contributed two stadiums in total: Jalak Harupat Soreang  and the national stadium.

Soon after the tournament Persib Bandung moved into the stadium on a permanent basis, and it has been their home ground since 2009. They were later joined by Pelita Bandung Raya who moved in four years later in 2013.
