Kanjuruhan Stadium History

The inaugural fixture at Stadion Kanjuruhan was played on 9th June 2004 between resident side Arema FC, and visitors PSS Sleman. A competitive match of the First Division, the opening ceremony was conducted by Indonesia’s first female President. Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Multi-purpose by design Stadium Kanjuruhan featured an athletics track around the circumference of the football pitch, with the architecture style and the use of bright colours (blue, yellow and green) resembling other Indonesia stadiums.

When Arema Cronus F.C qualified for the AFC Champions League after winning the Indonesia Super League during the 2009/2010 season, Kanjuruhan stadium had to be upgraded.

This is because the Asian Club competition has more stringent stadium regulations compared to the national league. The most notable improvement to occur during the renovation work was the installation of more powerful floodlights system.

In total it is estimated that the football ground cost 35 billion Indonesia Rupiahs as of 1997.
