Mandala Stadium History

Mandala Stadium boasts some of the most modern facilities in the Indonesian Super League having undergone two notable renovations during the 2009/2010 season and once again during 2012/2013.

Constructed in the outdoors style of other multi-purpose sports stadiums, Mandala features an athletics track around the perimeter of its pitch, and four stands set back and arranged in a continuous oval shaped.

Most of the renovation which has occurred at Stadion Mandala has been the result of Persipura Jayapura’s domestic success in the Indonesian Super League. After the club were crowned the winners in 2009, the stadium was renovated in order to host matches of the AFC Champions League.

Costing an estimated 10 billion rupiah a new state of the art scoreboard was installed, and world-class floodlights were installed in order to permit the hosting of night time matches. A few seasons later the changing rooms and press facilities were upgraded to International standard.

As for the future of the Mandala Stadium there are currently plants to expand the ground’s capacity to 50,000. The target is to make Manadala the largest sports arena in Eastern Indonesia.
