Sangju Civic Stadium History
Sangju Civic Stadium first opened on 22nd January 1992 and has been home to Sangju Sangmu F.C since 2011. Originally known as Sangmu FC who were the football team of the Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps, the club played out of Gwangju between 2003-2010 but relocated after another club were set up in the same city.
Costing an estimated 74 billion won which equates to around $7 million dollars based on prices at the time, the stadium as we know it today is the result of renovations on the old stadium which dates back to 1967.
Municipally owned, Sangju Civic Stadium is multi-purpose by design, and the refurbishment which occurred in the early 1990s saw the stands receive a modern facelift with colourful plastic seating installed.
Predominantly used to host the football matches of Sangju Sangmu FC, Sangju Civic Stadium is occasionally used to host athletics competitions which is why there is a running track around the pitch which is retained to this day.
