The 1954 FIFA World Cup was hosted by Switzerland between the 16th June and 4th July, and was the fifth edition of the global football tournament. Contested by 16 teams across 6 venues, the competition was notable for being high-scoring with West Germany defeating Hungary 3-2 in the final which gave the newly formed nation its first title.
