Dinamo Samarkand Stadium or simply Dinamo Stadion, is the home ground of Uzbek League football team FK Dinamo Samarqand. First opened in 1963, the facilities have naturally undergone numerous renovations in the past 55 or so years.

Dinamo Stadium Samarkand History

Dinamo Stadium first opened in 1963 with a capacity of 13,820 although the design was later altered to increase the number of seats to 16,000. It was originally known as Samarkand Mirzo Ulugbek upon opening however during the Soviet Era the stadium was renamed in honour of Karl Marx.

The stadium’s capacity and attendances peaked in the two years either side of the millennium with a crowd of 35,000 fans attending a Dinamo Samarkand friendly in 1999.

Fully converted to seating in 2001, numerous matches during the 2001/2002 season were sold out with crowds regularly reaching the maximum capacity of 16,000.

A decade later in 2012 the most significant renovation work in the history of Dinamo Stadium was carried out. Although the work decreased the ground’s capacity to 13,800, the facilities became fully modernised in line with FIFA’s international stadium regulations.

Numerous improvements to Dinamo Stadion were made including: a new state of the art type of grass pitch imported from Denmark, refurbished changing room and press facilities, and improved match day refreshments for supporters including the opening of a restaurant and cafe bar.
