Mytilene Municipal Stadium History

First opened in the 1960s, Mytilene Stadium is very much designed in the classic municipal mould with the objective of being as cost-effective to the tax-payer as possible. Subsequently multi-purpose by design, the ground has retained an athletics track around the perimeter of its pitch throughout its history.

Used to host the home matches of local side Aiolikos F.C since the club formed on 17th August 1975, Mytilene Municipal Stadium has also been home to AEL Kalloni F.C since 2011 when they promoted to the Football League.

Consisting of a single grandstand on the western side of the pitch which is divided into five sections, the municipal stadium is currently only capable of seating 4,000 supporters although it clearly has the potential for much greater expansion.

Renovated in anticipation of the 2004 Olympic Games which were held in Athens, Mytiline was only converted to all-seater three years previously in 2001. The most recent refurbishments to be carried out occurred in 2014 at a cost of €1.5 million after Kaloni F.C gained promotion to the Greek Superleague for the first time in their history.
