The Belgium hosted Euro 1972 was the fourth European football tournament sanctioned by UEFA, and it was contested by four teams. West Germany were crowned Champions after defeating the Soviet Union 3-0 courtesy of two goals from Gerd Mülle, and a single from Herbert Wimmer.
