Ticha Stadium History

Ticha Stadium first opened in 1968 after the club’s president Vladimir Chakarov enlisted the help of fans and volunteers. Developed very little since first opening, it currently has a theoretical capacity of 12,500 however it is scaled down to 8,250 after a minor renovation in 2008 which saw the addition of modern plastic seats across all stands.

The stadium’s name is derived from both the club’s former name, and the nearby river Kamchia.

Currently there are plans to replace Ticha with a new state-of-the-art €80 million sports complex known as New Varna Stadium. Designed by GMP International architects who helped resign the Olympiastadion in Berlin and Frankfurt’s Commerzbank-Arena, the stadium will be capable of seating 30,000 fans and will be built to UEFA’s Elite Stadium specifications.

Although construction work began on 12th September 2008, the project is now put on hold after the on-set of the global financial crisis in 2009.
