Stadium Guide

History

Arena Condá is the name of the newly constructed ground which replaced the former Estádio Regional Índio Condá in 2008. Constructed on the same site of the old Regional Stadium, Arena Condá was the working title of the plan to refurbish the 1974 built ground. Spearheaded by Mayor John Rodriguez, the renovation work aimed to create a”Modern solution based on European Stadium”.

The new stadium was built across a handful of phases beginning in April 2008 and finishing on May 4th 2014 with three new stands constructed over a period of four years. Upon the completion of the fourth and final section, The East Stand, Arena Condá had a mini-inauguration of sorts, hosting Corinthians in one of the final matches of the Brazilian Championships.

Costing an estimated $25 million dollars the creation of Arena Condá has seen the stadium’s capacity essentially double with the former Estadio Indian Condá having room for just 12,500 supporters. Whilst the 22,600 capacity Arena is yet to host a completely-sold out match, the record attendance of 19,175 which was set in on May 11th 2014 in a 2-1 defeat against Gremio is evidence that the expansion was long overdue.

Owned by the Municipality of Chapecó in the southern Brazillian state of Santa Catarina, the stadium is often cited as one of the best-medium sized grounds in Brazil with the local Chapecoense fans known for their passion. Although the new stadium is technically completed in the future there could be further renovations as the original plans were not 100% realised with the absence of a roof seen as the main thing still missing.
