Euro 1992 Sweden

Overview

  • Winner: Denmark
  • Runner Up: Germany
  • Stadiums: 4
  • Teams: 8
  • Date: 10th - 26th June 1992

The 1992 Euro Championships were held by Nordic country Sweden, and it was the last tournament to feature the old format whereby there were only 8 participating countries, 2 points for a win and before the “back-pass” rule came into existence.

The tournament was surprisingly won by Denmark which marked one of their few major sporting triumphs, and it was even more unexpected due to Denmark only qualifying for the competition after the breakup and warfare in Yugoslavia.

The final was held in the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg and the 37,800 capacity attendance saw Denmark comfortably defeat Germany 2 nil with goals either side of half time.

Venues

Location Stadium Capacity
Gothenburg Ullevi 44,000
Stockholm Råsunda Stadium 40,000
Malmö Malmö Stadion 30,000
Norrköping Idrottsparken 23,000
