If the Premier League had been determined on home matches alone in the 2021/22 campaign, Liverpool would have been crowned champions. They made Anfield a fortress, winning 15 and drawing four of their 19 matches.

As some of the leading teams in Europe have found in the Champions League over the last few years, getting a result in front of Liverpool’s fans is not easy. They can help lift their side when they need their support the most.

Liverpool ended last season just one point behind Manchester City. They were unlucky not to win the title on 92 points, as since the Premier League was inaugurated in 1992, that tally would have been enough in 24 of the 30 campaigns.

Jurgen Klopp’s side did not finish last season empty-handed. They won the EFL Cup and FA Cup at Wembley, prevailing on penalties against Chelsea in both of those finals. The Merseyside club also reached the Champions League final, where they lost to Real Madrid in Paris.

If Liverpool continue to be as dominant as they were last season at home, they are going to have an excellent chance of winning their second title in four years. As of 21st June, they are 11/4 second favourites in the Betway football odds to end the season at the top of the standings.

Manchester City Expected to Be Even Stronger

Manchester City are bidding to become only the second club in Premier League history to win three straight titles. Manchester United are the only one to do so: they managed the feat between 1999 and 2001, while they also completed a hat-trick between 2007 and 2009.

Pep Guardiola’s side are set to get even stronger this summer during the transfer window, which is bad news for the rest of their rivals. Their Spanish boss is never satisfied which what his team achieved the previous season, so he is always looking at ways they can improve.

City now have a settled defence, which is what helped them keep 20 clean sheets last season. In Ederson, they have a very reliable goalkeeper. Ahead of the Brazilian, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte have developed a strong partnership in the middle of their back four.

The Etihad Stadium also proved to be a dominant place for City last season in the Premier League. They too won 15 games in front of their home fans but drew two and lost two of their other four matches.

Chelsea, Spurs and United Hoping to Be in the Mix

Manchester City and Liverpool finished a long way ahead of the rest of the pack last season, which means the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United have to make a lot of improvement.

As Talksport reported, Chelsea are now under new owners which could help their situation in the 2022/23 campaign. They have been linked with some world-class players during the summer transfer window.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel will be in his second full season at the club. He will be looking to improve on where his side went wrong last year. The German has a talented squad of players, so more can be expected from the West London club.

Antonio Conte gets his first opportunity to add to his squad in the transfer window since arriving at Tottenham. The Italian guided Spurs into the top four last season, something which looked unlikely when he joined.

Conte knows exactly what it takes to win the Premier League title. He led Chelsea to the crown in 2017. He has also had success since then in Italy, winning the Serie A title with Inter Milan in 2021.

Manchester United start the upcoming season with a new manager, after they appointed Erik ten Hag as their boss, replacing Ralf Rangnick. This is the beginning of a new era at Old Trafford and fans of the club will be hoping the former Ajax man can help them close them to silverware again.

United could only finish sixth last season. They were 35 points behind their local rivals Manchester City. Their first goal next year will be to qualify back into the Champions League.

The fixture list for the 2022/23 Premier League season is now out. The opening game comes on 5th August when Crystal Palace host Arsenal at Selhurst Park.
