Skënderbeu Stadium first opened in 1957 as a multi-purpose sports stadium but over the years has come to be thought of as more of a football ground. It has been home to KF Skënderbeu Korçë ever since who currently hold the record for most consecutive Albanian Superliga Titles, having won five in a row since 2011.
Naturally Skënderbeu Stadium has undergone renovation work over the years to keep apace of other European Stadia. Between 2010 and 2011 it was renovated in order to satisfy UEFA’s Stadium regulations.
Largely funded by private donations from sponsors, KF Skënderbeu Korçë made history in 2015 by becoming the first Albanian football team to reach the play-off rounds in the Champions League.
With guaranteed progression to the Group Stages of the Europa League for the 2015/2016 season whether they win or lose against Dinamo Zagreb, the investment in the facilities at Stadion Skënderbeu have more or less been vindicated.
In the past Skënderbeu Stadium hosts International Football matches of the Albania, but in recent years including qualification for Euro 2016, Elbasan Arena has emerged as the country’s premier stadium.

The Matchday Experience
If anyone knows where the away fans sit then please let us know!
The city centre possesses many cafes, bars and restaurants but unfortunately many lack visibility on the web which means you might have to explore the city centre.
There doesn’t appear to be an online store which means your best bet for picking up merchandise is at the stadium on matchdays.
There isn’t a stadium tour available of Skënderbeu.
Skënderbeu Stadium sits 1.6 km north of Korçë city centre where Vangjush Mio park is on Fan Noli Boulevard. The resulting walk is likely to take the average football fan no more than 20 minutes.
The City of Korçë is located within the south-east of Albania, and is the sixth largest in the country .
The stadium’s address for satnav is as follows:
- Rruga Kristaq Papargjiri 1, Korçë, Albania
There doesn’t appear to be any car parks either at the stadium with the exception of a few spaces within the campus of Fan S. Noli University. You might have to look for on-street parking along any of the numerous residential roads to the south of the ground.
Korçë doesn’t appear to be blessed with its own railway station!
Airports and Flying
Kastoria National Airport 84 km away in Greece is technically the closest major airport to Korçë, however it appears as if it is only served by domestic routes by Astra Airlines.
You’re better of flying into Tirana International Airport which is named after Mother Tersea and is Albania’s only International Airport. This is located in the capital city 126 km from Korçë.
Within the compact city centre there are a handful of affordable accommodation options including Hotel Flamingo, Hotel Regency, and Grand Hotel Palace. There is also the luxury Hotel Koçibelli which is quite reasonable in itself when you factor in currency conversions.
