Hang Day Stadium History
The first iteration of the stadium was known was named after the city of Hanoi and dates back to 20th century. Since 2005 however the ground has been known as Hang Day, which many fans believe to be the most historically appropriate name of the stadium.
Located in the heart of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, it was previously recognised as the national stadium until My Dình opened in 2003.
Multi-purpose by design, Hang Day Stadium features an athletics track around the perimeter of the pitch although it has traditionally been used for football.
The most notable football match to be played at Hang Day Stadium is undoubtedly the final of the 1998 Tiger Cup which an International tournament contested by the teams of south-east Asia. In addition to this match, it also hosted the opening game of the competition and further matches from Group B.
As of 2009 Hang Day Stadium is now home to four professional football teams from Hanoi. This is in contrast to the proceeding decade where it was only occasionally used for football.
