Aji Imbut Stadium History

Madya Stadium Tenggarong was constructed for the 2008 Indonesia National Games or as it is known natively, Pekan Olahraga Nasional. Multi-purpose by design in order to accommodate the athletics competition, the stadium cost an estimated 899 billion Indonesian Rupiah.

Upon opening on 18th June of that year the stadium was known as  Stadion Madya Tenggarong however it was renamed in honour of Sultan Aji Muhammad who is an instrumental figure in Indonesians country.

The new name was inaugurated on 28th March 2011 with a ceremony conducted by East Kalimantan Govenor, Awang Faroek Ishak.

Multi-purpose by design, Aji Imbut Stadium features an athletics track around the perimeter of the pitch, and the wider sports complex contains numerous facilities. These include a velodrome, a BMX track, an equestrian field, and archery area amongst others.

Today the stadium is predominantly used to host the football matches of Mitra Kukar F.C who compete within the Super League which is the highest tier of football in Indonesia.
