Summer is usually the time for going abroad, following other sports or simply spending a little bit of quality time with family and loved ones.
Following the outbreak of the global pandemic last year, a major spanner was put in the works meaning most of our plans were scuppered, amended or ultimately cancelled.
The best example of this was Euro 2020 which was postponed to this Summer, as well as changes to the Champions League format, and even the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Despite being 1 year late, UEFA’s Euro 2020 more than made up for it by serving some scintillating tournament football, and in case you hadn’t heard England even managed to reach the final for the first time since 1966.
Despite losing on penalties to Mancini’s Italian team at Wembley, the UK’s love affair with Football seems to be as passionate as ever, as well as across the continent.
To try and tap into this anticipation of the new season we thought we’d showcase all of the newly promoted teams, and the stadiums you can visit in 2021/2022 Premier League Season. Covid permitting of course.
Though of course it’s never easy financially on newly promoted teams, and they could probably all do with winning the $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot to make some key summer transfers.
Teams Promoted from the Championship
1. Norwich City
Familiar to Premier League fans over the last decade or so, Carrow Road has established itself as a lovely away day due to the picturesque city of Norwich. Located next to the River Wensum, it’s a very short distance from the city’s train station.
2. Watford
Relegated under disappointing circumstances despite the hiring of Nigel Pearson and being in a relatively strong position, Watford successfully returned to the Premier League at first attempt. Fans will be able to visit Vicarage Road Stadium and check out the recently named Elton John stand which we can confirm is indeed still standing.
3. Brentford
Known as Brentford Community Stadium, this brand new stadium opened on 1st September to 2020 to little fanfare due to the non-existent crowds. Similar to AFC Wimbledon’s New Plough lane which opened last season, fans will be excited to tick this new ground of their bucket lists, as well as to welcome Brentford back into the top flight for the first time in 74 years.
Other Premier League Stadium News
Aston Villa
Slightly tongue in cheek here to include it under stadium news but there’s suggestions that Jack Grealish could be about to leave The Villa for Pep Guardiola’s formidable Manchester City.
According to one football columist, Jack needs to choose if he wants a cabinet full of trophies or a statue outside Villa Park. We did say this Stadium Development was tongue in cheek!
Manchester United
Next up in the non-news stakes is that the Glazer Family have continued to surprise fans of Manchester United in many ways over the Summer.
Not only have they agreed to work on more fan representation, and hired a director of football, they’ve also put their hands in their pockets to finance a fresh lick of red paint outside the Stretford End.
With the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, fans are certainly feeling happier at Old Trafford compared to previous seasons.
Everton
Last of all in Stadium news, we have Everton’s exciting new project known as Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium. With Goodison Park first opened in 1892, and now seriously showing its age, Everton have been seeking a new home since at the least the 1990s.
With Liverpool successfully expanding Anfield whilst retaining the heritage of the ground, Everton were once again trying to play catch-up with their more illustrious neighbors. Should this project go ahead as planned, it might be fair to say that Everton finally have the better stadium.
Perhaps who has the better atmosphere will always be hotly debated, however there’s no denying which ground will be more modern.
