History
The inaugural competitive fixture at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium was played on 15th February 2013 between home side Lekhwiya SC and visitors Al Khor. Played out in front of a capacity crowd, the match ended in a slightly disappointing 1-1 draw.
Built over a period of two years across two phases, the first construction phase focusing on the foundations began in early 2011 and was completed in May 2012. The second construction phase which focused on the exterior cladding, and fitting the stadium took an additional 9 months to complete.
Located within the Duhail district of Doha which is the capital and most populous city of Qatar, the stadium sits within the Internal Security Forces Complex in an area blessed with parking and palm trees.
Originally home to just Lekhwiya SC, hence the alternative name for the stadium, the ground is now also home to local side El Jaish SC. The full name of the stadium is “Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Stadium”.
