Provisionally selected as one twelve venues of the 2022 World Cup, it is widely expected that Thani bin Jassim Stadium will undergo substantial renovation ahead of the tournament including a multi-coloured façade which is said to represent tolerance and respect.
With the addition of a second tier of modular seating the capacity will increase to 44,470 for the duration of the games before returning to normal after the conclusion of the tournament.
