Vozdovac Stadium History
Vozdovac Stadium first opened in August 2013 after a construction period of around 24 months. Situated 24m above ground level on top of a shopping centre, the football ground is famous amongst fans around the word despite being home to one of the lesser successful teams from Belgrade.
Costing an estimated €22 million to build, the new Vozdovac Stadium is capable of seating 5,200 supporters and it fully adheres to UEFA’s stadium criteria for matches of both the Europa and Champions League. Unfortunately FK Vozdovac have yet to qualify for either competition, however due to popularity of the stadium, it would be more than welcome if The Dragons did.
The inaugural match was played on 31st August 2013 against Jagodina during the fourth week of the Superliga which is the highest tier of Serbian Football. Although the ground has inherited the name Vozdovac Stadium from its predecessor, the Serbian name officially translates as “Arena Shopping Centre” for obvious reasons.
As for the future development of this towering stadium, it’s hard to see how expansion could occur. The design already makes the most of the very limited amount of space available, and a second tier would surely be architectural impossible to achieve.
