Avanhard Stadium (Lutsk) - Volyn Lutsk Stadium Guide

Today’s Avanhard Stadium was built in 1960 as part of the Soviet Sports Society of Ukrainian Industries which aimed to create a variety of sports teams for trade union members to both support and participate in. The movement created a handful of stadiums named “Avanhard”(Vanguard) across Ukraine with other examples of the era based in Luhansk and Uzhhorod.

Prior to this, the site on which Lutsk’s ground now stands was originally known as Stadium Jozef Pilsudski, with the small stadium’s opening ceremony held on September 24th 1933. A local Lutsk based side took on a Polish team from Warsaw with the home side defeating the visitors by a single goal to nil.

Current residents FC Volyn Lutsk wouldn’t form until 1960, and it was at that this point that Lutsk City Stadium reopened as Avanhard with enough space for 15,000 spectators. Consisting primarily of uninspiring concrete stands and a primitive wooden scoreboard, the ground underwent large scale modernisation between September 2001 and March 2002 although under-soil hating and improved floodlights were added in 1993.

The reconstruction of the stadium saw colourful blue and yellow plastic seats added reflecting the colours of the national flag, with improved matchday amenities for fans watching the match. The newly refurbished Avanhard Stadium is yet to Football, matches beyond a Domestic level with the club failing to qualify for Europe despite having numerous opportunities as one of the founding clubs of the Ukrainian Premier League in 1992.
